GRIEF & LOSS Therapy

Support for Loss, Change, and What Comes After

Grief doesn’t follow a neat timeline. It can come in waves, show up unexpectedly, or linger long after others expect you to be “okay.”

Petal & Peak Mental Health offers grief therapy in Denver, Colorado, with in-person sessions in Southwest Denver and telehealth available statewide across Colorado. We work with adolescents, young adults, adults, and older adults who are navigating loss and want a place where their grief is taken seriously.

When Grief Feels Heavy, Complicated, or Hard to Name

You might be seeking grief therapy if you’re experiencing:

  • Persistent sadness, numbness, or emotional exhaustion

  • Difficulty concentrating or getting through daily responsibilities

  • Feeling disconnected from others or unsure how to talk about your loss

  • Waves of anger, guilt, anxiety, or longing

  • A sense that life has shifted in ways you don’t yet understand

Grief doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it shows up quietly… as fatigue, withdrawal, or a feeling that something essential has been lost. Therapy can help you make sense of that experience without rushing it.

Our Approach to Grief & LOSS

At Petal & Peak, grief therapy is not about “moving on” or finding closure. It’s about creating space for what you’ve lost, understanding how it’s affecting you, and learning how to carry grief without being overwhelmed by it.

Our therapists work collaboratively and at your pace. We help you:

  • Talk about your loss in ways that feel honest and supported

  • Understand how grief is showing up emotionally, physically, and relationally

  • Make room for grief without letting it define everything

  • Navigate changes in identity, relationships, and meaning

  • Find ways to live alongside grief as life continues to unfold

To support this work, we draw from well-established therapeutic approaches, chosen thoughtfully rather than applied rigidly. This may include:

  • Narrative-informed work to honor the story of who (and what) you’ve lost

  • Motivational Interviewing to support movement when grief feels immobilizing

  • Acceptance- and skills-based approaches to manage emotional intensity and overwhelm

  • Reflective therapy to understand how this loss is affecting you now, emotionally, relationally, and in how you see yourself moving forward

You don’t need to grieve “the right way” or know what you need going in. Therapy is grounded in real conversation, care, and respect for the complexity of loss.

Types of Grief and Loss We Work With

Grief takes many forms. We support clients navigating:

  • Loss of a loved one, including parents, partners, siblings, friends, or chosen family

  • Relationship loss, such as breakups, divorce, or estrangement

  • Grief related to pregnancy or family expectations

  • Chronic illness, disability, or chronic pain, including grief for a life you expected

  • Caregiving and anticipatory grief, when loss is ongoing or approaching

  • Career, identity, or role loss, including retirement or major life changes

  • Moving and relocation, including loss of community or belonging

  • Disenfranchised grief, when your loss is minimized, unrecognized, or misunderstood

If your grief feels invisible or hard to explain, it still belongs here.

Who Grief Therapy Is a Good Fit For

We work with clients ages 15 and older who want support that is:

  • Thoughtful rather than prescriptive

  • Emotionally attuned without being overwhelming

  • Grounded in respect for personal, cultural, and relational context

Our approach is especially helpful for people who want space to grieve without being rushed, fixed, or pathologized.
